James L. Plosia Jr. and Jonathan F. Cohen of the firm published an article in the New Jersey League of Municipalities January 2014 issue regarding a landmark case set to be decided by the New Jersey Supreme Court. The case involves whether public sector employers must negotiate the decision to furlough or demote employees with their unions. Mr. Plosia and Mr. Cohen also represent the Borough of Belmar in the case.

James L. Plosia Jr. and Jonathan Cohen Represent a School Board in Novel Special Education Matter
In a December 20, 2012 federal court decision, the firm successfully represented a school board in a novel issue concerning special education and charter schools. In L.Y. o/b/o J.Y. v. Bayonne Board of Education, James L. Plosia Jr. and Jonathan Cohen of the firm represented Bayonne Board of Education, which asserted that it could educate the special needs student in the least restrictive environment. Affirming the decision of the Office of Administrative Law, United States District Court Judge Cecchi held that the Board had the right to contest the placement made by a charter school and parents. The decision, while unreported, is likely to have ramifications throughout the State, and may have national implications as well. The case may be found at 2012 WL 6664688 (D.N.J. 2012).

Firm principal Maurice J. Nelligan, Jr. and associate Jonathan F. Cohen are contributing editors in the recently released Sixth Edition of the labor law treatise, "Developing Labor Law." Mr. Nelligan and Mr. Cohen have previously collaborated as editors to the 2009-2011 supplements to this treatise, which is considered the definitive guide for attorneys concerning private sector labor law and the National Labor Relations Act.

On May 3, 2012, AMMM principal Lisa Barré-Quick participated in a NJ ICLE panel seminar conducted at the New Jersey Law Center in New Brunswick entitled Handling Employment Cases Involving Licensed Professionals. The seminar focused on the issues unique to the representation of licensed professionals and their employers. Ms. Barré-Quick's presentation focused upon strategic considerations in handling cases involving licensed professionals and offered her audience a "top ten" list of areas of concern in the representation of licensed health care providers, attorneys, and financial professionals. On May 18, 2012, AMMM principal James L. Plosia Jr. and associate Jonathan F. Cohen addressed the New Jersey State Bar Association as part of the Bar's "workshop seminars". The subject of the School Law workshop upon which Mr. Plosia and Mr. Cohen presented involved the summary and analysis of Paff v. Borough of Chatham. In that case, the firm successfully represented the Borough in protecting the confidential personnel file of a police officer.
